Understanding wagering requirements
A wagering requirement (also called a playthrough or rollover) is the number of times you must bet a bonus — or a deposit plus bonus — before you are allowed to withdraw anything from it. It is the single most important term on any offer, and the reason a giant headline bonus can be worth far less than it looks.
How the maths works
If you claim a $100 bonus with 40× wagering, you must place $4,000 in bets before the bonus and its winnings unlock. Watch for whether the requirement applies to the bonus only or to deposit + bonus — the latter roughly doubles the real cost. The calculator above does this for you: enter the bonus, the multiplier, the game weighting and your average bet, and it shows the total to wager and roughly how many bets that takes.
The terms that quietly change the value
Game weighting
Not every game counts the same toward wagering. Slots usually contribute 100%, table games often 5–20%, and live-dealer games sometimes 0%. If a bonus weights table games at 10%, you must wager ten times as much playing them to make the same progress — so a “slots-friendly” bonus is close to useless if you came to play blackjack.
Maximum bet while clearing
Most bonuses cap your bet size (for example $5) until the wagering is met. Exceed it — even once, even by accident — and the bonus and any winnings can be voided. A low cap also stretches out the time it takes to clear, giving the house edge more chances to grind your balance down.
Validity window
You typically have a fixed period — often 7 to 14 days — to complete the wagering. A tight window on a high requirement is far harder to beat, and anything left over when the clock runs out is usually forfeited.
Why the headline number lies
Put those factors together and it becomes clear why we say the banner is the least useful part of a bonus. A “325% up to 5 BTC” offer wrapped in 40× wagering, a small max bet and slots-only weighting can be worth less in practice than a modest, low-wagering offer you can actually clear.
