Understanding RTP and house edge
RTP, or Return to Player, is the percentage of all money wagered on a game that it is designed to pay back to players over the long run. A game with 96% RTP keeps, on average, 4% of everything staked — and that 4% is the house edge. The two are simply two sides of the same number: RTP + house edge = 100%.
Theoretical, not a promise
The crucial word is “long run.” RTP is a theoretical average measured over millions of spins or hands, not a guarantee for your session. A 96% slot will not hand back $96 of every $100 you feed it on any given night — you might win big or lose it all. RTP tells you the built-in cost over time; it says nothing about what happens in the next hour.
Variance is the other half of the story
Two games can share the same RTP and feel completely different because of variance (or volatility). A low-variance game pays small amounts often; a high-variance game pays rarely but larger. Higher variance means wider swings around that theoretical RTP in the short term — bigger wins are possible, but so are longer losing runs. Neither changes the long-run edge; they just change how bumpy the ride is.
Where the edge is biggest
House edge varies enormously by game. Blackjack with good rules and correct strategy can sit near 0.5%; single-zero roulette is about 2.7%; many slots run 3–10%; and the flashy live-casino game shows and “Lightning” variants carry some of the highest edges on the floor — the multipliers that make them exciting are paid for with a worse return. If value matters to you, the lower-edge games are where to look, as we explain in our guides to casino games.
How RTP feeds our reviews
When we assess a casino, how honestly it presents RTP — and whether it offers a good spread of lower-edge games rather than only high-margin ones — feeds our Выбор игр score. A transparent operator publishes game RTPs; a cagey one hides them. See how the weighting works on our review methodology page.
What this tool is (and isn’t)
This lookup is an informational reference using typical published figures; the exact RTP of a specific title can vary by provider and by operator configuration, so always check the game’s own info panel. Knowing a game’s RTP helps you choose wisely, but it does not make any game profitable — every one of them is designed to return less than it takes over time.
