A Curaçao licence is a gambling authorisation issued from Curaçao, one of the most common and lowest-cost permits held by crypto casinos worldwide.

Historically, Curaçao operated through a master-and-sub-licence model, in which a small number of master licence holders could issue sub-licences to many operators. The jurisdiction has been reforming this framework toward direct licensing under a dedicated gaming authority, with the stated aim of tighter oversight. Because it has long been comparatively inexpensive and quick to obtain, a Curaçao licence signals that some regulation exists, but generally lighter consumer-protection and dispute-resolution requirements than a top-tier European licence.

For players in Germany this distinction is critical. Under Germany’s Interstate Treaty on Gambling (the Glücksspielstaatsvertrag, GlüStV 2021), most Curaçao-licensed crypto casinos are not authorised to serve German residents. A Curaçao permit does not make an operator legal in Germany; that requires the appropriate German or EU authorisation. Our reviews state whether an operator also holds an EU or EEA licence, such as an MGA licence from Malta, and we never imply German legality where none exists.

For example, a crypto casino might display a Curaçao licence yet hold nothing recognised in Germany, in which case we flag that it is not authorised for the German market.
